The Department of Transportation has responded to State Senator Martin Golden’s request to study the safety of the entrance to the Belt Parkway at Fourth Avenue, and has already installed “quik curbs” and additional signage is set to be installed.
Golden received a concern from a local resident after the news of the accident on the Taconic State Parkway and he immediately contacted the Department of Transportation to bring to their attention the concerns related to the signage which, at times, can cause confusion for motorists getting onto the Belt Parkway.
Golden stated, “I thank the Department of Transportation for their speedy response to installing better and more reassuring signage and markings for all motorists who utilize the Fourth Avenue entrance/exit of the Belt Parkway. We need to maintain a safe driving environment for all to the best of our ability, and if these additional ‘quik curbs’ and signs can save lives and prevent accidents, it was well worth the effort.”
Golden continued, “I can completely understand the concern in the way this was marked and I do hope now, with the new indicators, motorists will be directed properly and there will no longer be any sense of concern or potential for accidents where cars are mistakenly going in the wrong direction.”
