Arab American Association of New York awards

Accolades for local notables, a screening of a post 9/11 movie and a guest address by a New York City commissioner capped the special occasion when the Arab American Association of New York held a gala awards ceremony in Dyker Heights.

Community Board 10 Chairman Dean Rasinya and 68th Precinct Commanding Officer Deputy Inspector Eric R. Rodriguez were among the honorees at the eighth annual reception, held at the Dyker Beach Golf Club, 86th Street and Seventh Avenue, which also featured a keynote address by New York City Commissioner of Immigrant Affairs Fatima A. Shama.

The ceremony was followed by a screening of a short film by Joel Fendelman about a Bay Ridge boy, who tries to “find himself” through a maze of culture and religion, while “simply being a child.”
