Police arrested a man for shooting another guy in a Bensonhurst Park after an argument escalated on Aug. 16.
The two got into it at 4:26 pm that Saturday in a park near Cropsey Avenue and Bay 28th Street, police said. But the argument turned ugly when Ilya Shmaley allegedly whipped out a pistol and fired a round into the victim’s abdomen, according to a criminal complaint.
Paramedics rushed the victim to Lutheran Medical Center, where doctors removed the bullet from his abdomen, police said.
A doctor told police the bullet caused internal bleeding and a laceration to the victim’s liver, according to the complaint. As a result of his injuries, doctors had to remove a portion of the victim’s colon, the complaint noted.
Shamley was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon, and several counts of assault. His attorney did not respond to requests for comment. Shmaley was arraigned in Brooklyn criminal court on Aug. 18, where a judge ordered him held on $100,000 bond, court records show. His next court date is Aug. 22.
