From April 18 through April 25, The Bay
Ridge Festival of the Arts will open to the public its galleries
full of paintings, sculpture, prints and photography.
A highlight of the fine arts sale is the popular crafts fair
on April 24, from 1 pm to 7 pm, and April 25, from 1 pm to 5
pm, featuring pottery by Judith Hooper (pictured), stained glass,
jewelry, batik, holiday decorations, decorative plates, Rosemaling,
crocheted and knitted items and quilts.
The mission of the festival is to promote the arts in Brooklyn
and to raise funds for scholarships for area college students
pursuing the arts. According to festival spokeswoman Mary Speers,
the event has provided more than $220,000 in scholarships since
its founding in the 1960s.
The festival, which also features many special events including
live musical performances and a stained glass demonstration,
is free and is held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd,
7420 Fourth Ave. at 74th Street in Bay Ridge. For more information
