If you’re looking for a way to combine a night on the town with a culturally enriching outing, look no further than “First Thursday,” the monthly arts celebration held in DUMBO.
On May 1, 24 neighborhood institutions will host exhibitions, including Smack Mellon [92 Plymouth St. at Washington Street, (718) 834-8761], which is previewing its annual Kentucky Derby party and art auction (pictured).
“What’s good about First Thursday is that there are enough galleries to make it manageable, but not too many to make it overwhelming,” said Zannah Mass, cultural affairs director for Two Trees, the DUMBO-based real estate company organizing the event. “You really feel that you’ve covered a lot of ground … There are receptions, curators’ talks and film screenings. There’s something for everyone whether you’re a serious collector or not.”
“First Thursday” will be held on May 1 at locations throughout DUMBO. For information, visit www.dumbo-newyork.com.
