Bay Ridge business leaders announced the winner of Fifth Avenue’s inaugural Community Banner Contest earlier this week, part of an effort to beautify one of the neighborhood’s busiest thoroughfares.
The contest was hosted by the Bay Ridge Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District, which aims to maintain a thriving neighborhood by connecting with local residents, elected officials and community organizations.
Through the competition, local creatives were given a chance to encapsulate what Bay Ridge is all about in work that represented the dynamic and multicultural community.
Winning artist Adrian Stupica did just that with his piece, titled “Bay Ridge is Everything.” A resident of Bay Ridge for five years, Stupica incorporated the nuances of the community he said stood out for him in daily life.
“His design truly captures the essence of Fifth Avenue and will serve as a beautiful representation of our community’s creativity and spirit,” said Elizabeth Lovejoy, executive director of the Bay Ridge Fifth Avenue BID.
Stupica hopes that this work will provide everyone with the chance to see themselves represented. Making a point of including the word “welcome” in various languages across the banner, the artist thoughtfully highlighed the unique and diverse community of Bay Ridge.
Stupica’s banner is set to be displayed across Fifth Avenue beginning Aug. 29. A congratulatory check will also be presented to the artist on the day of the unveiling.
