Summer heat couldn’t keep Bay Ridge residents from hitting the streets for the first Summer Stroll on Third Avenue of 2024 on July 19. Families, couples and friends took a collective sigh of relief as the street festival kicked off with musical performances, popular food vendors, games and entertainment for all.

As part of the New York City Open Streets program, Third Avenue, usually crowded with cars, was transformed into a vibrant pedestrian paradise, free from the hustle and bustle of traffic.

Residents and visitors flocked to the popular street, stretching from 83rd Street to Marine Avenue, to enjoy an evening of entertainment and community spirit.

Live music filled the air as rock bands performed in front of The Kettle Black, drawing enthusiastic crowds who sang along to their favorite tunes. Meanwhile, the Reel Celtic group entertained on 83rd Street with traditional Irish songs.

Attendees looking for a more hands-on experience were invited to the School of Rock table, where performers of all ages could try their hand at drumming. Local politicians and candidates also moved through the crowd, shaking hands and mingling with constituents.

People of all ages strolled hand in hand, laughing and chatting with friends and neighbors. It was a true celebration of community spirit, showcasing the best of what the neighborhood has to offer.

The event will return on July 26 and Aug. 9 between 68th and 82nd streets and on Aug. 2 between 82nd Street and Marine Avenue, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Since its inception in 2021, the event has become the city’s largest and most successful “Summer Stroll” program, drawing tens of thousands of visitors to Bay Ridge each year.
