Four men were hospitalized on Oct. 14 after a dispute over money ended in a gruesome attack that left a block-long trail of blood.
Stunned witnesses told police that six thugs armed with knives and baseball bats hunkered down behind a fence before jumping 21-year-old Hayk Muradia as he walked past the corner of Bedford Avenue and Avenue T at 6:40 am.
But the battle was quickly joined by the victim’s friends, who had just arrived to pick the 21-year-old up for work.
The confrontation sparked a violent struggle that moved from Bedford Avenue to Avenue S, where Muradia was stabbed twice in the lower back, police said.
The fight ended abruptly, thanks in part to 66-year-old resident Salvatore Tinerino, who saw the confrontation and screamed for help.
“I yelled ‘police!’ and it scared [the attackers] off,” Tinerino, a retired security guard, told the New York Post.
Muradia was rushed to Coney Island Hospital for treatment while his friends were taken to Lutheran Medical Center with a smattering of bruises and cuts. All were expected to recover, officials said.
Signs of the struggle were still apparent hours after the attack — especially at the corner of Avenue S and Bedford Avenue, where Muradia fell and paramedics rendered aid.
Investigators believe that Muradia owed his attackers money. No arrests had been made by late Monday.
