Tigers 2
Cyclones 5
Monday, Aug. 9 at MCU Park
This rare day game was a bit lethargic, but the Cyclones won it with their normal combination of great pitching and timely hitting, including four consecutive singles in the third inning and two two-out RBI singles in the sixth.
But the story of this game was starter Yohan Almonte, who scattered seven hits in eight innings of work, striking out nine Tigers and lowering his ERA to 1.92, while collecting his sixth win.
Justin Schafer was the offensive star of the game, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
Darrell Ceciliani, who is trying to be the first ballplayer to hit .400 in the New York–Penn League since 1971, had the day off, holding his average at .375.
The next Cyclones home game is Aug. 18 against the Staten Island Yankees at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 19th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497]. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
