“The Real World” is coming to downtown Brooklyn and that means big business for local bars.
Since it was revealed that the Belltel Lofts at 365 Bridge Street would be the MTV reality show’s home when filming begins this summer, nearby hangouts have been thinking about getting their fifteen minutes of fame.
“We’d love to have them,” said Lou Sones, owner of the Brazen Head at 228 Atlantic Avenue. “I think it’s positive. I think it publicizes Brooklyn. I think the entertainment industry in New York is vital to our economy.”
This wouldn’t be the first time the Brazen Head welcomed a camera crew.
“We’ve had two TV shows shot here – ‘Flight of the Conchords’ and ‘Canterbury’s Law.’ Both were very positive experiences. It does nothing but publicize the bar, which is great,” Sones said.
The typical “Real World” cast consists of seven early 20-somethings sleeping the day away and then partying till dawn at bars and clubs. But sometimes the party turns ugly.
During the San Diego season, two roommates – Robin and Brad – were arrested for public intoxication and assault.
Another memorable moment happened in Austin when an inebriated Johanna stole a rose from a street peddler and ended up in the slammer.
And who can forget the drunken debauchery in Las Vegas that landed Steven, Brynn and Trishelle in a ratings-grabbing threesome.
Time will tell if the Brooklyn cast lives up to the same drunken standards but one thing is sure to be the same – they’ll be living in a rocking pad.
Their two-story penthouse in the Belltel Lofts will reportedly feature five bedrooms and two terraces. And in true “Real World” tradition, there will be a hot tub.
Although this 6,000-square-foot apartment seems lavish for the typical Brooklyn resident, it will actually be the smallest “Real World” home in the show’s history.
