Big Movies for Little Kids, Cobble Hill Brooklyn’s own popular, film series for children, continues with two screenings this month.
May 5 brings A Short History (Scurta Istorie) and other great shorts from Romania. A Short History (Scurta istorie) (1956) is an animated short film by Ion Popescu-Gopo which won the Palm D’or in 1957 at Cannes. Enjoy this and other unique animated shorts films from Romania.
On May 19 there is Hoppity Goes to Town (1941, 78 minutes). Come see the screen’s first full-length musical comedy cartoon. The insect world comes to life in this classic animated feature from Dave and Max Fleischer, creators of Betty Boop and Popeye.
Hoppity the grasshopper returns to Bugville (New York City) to find trouble in the form of the evil Bagley C. Beetle and his henchmen. Will Hoppity foil Bagley in time to save his garden paradise from ruin? This heartwarming tale will delight audiences of all ages with its timeless animation and charm.
Films in the series are shown alternate Mondays, following the public school calendar, at 4 p.m. at the Cobble Hill Cinemas, 265 Court Street at Butler. Admission is $6.50; lap-sitters under two are free. The shows are primarily geared for kids ages 2-6.
