Next time, put some hot peppers on it!

Mayor Mike Bloomberg delivered the sage advice when he visited Lioni’s Italian Heroes in Bensonhurst to personally acquaint his choppers with a sandwich named just for him.

The experience left Hizzoner reeling in delight over “The Mayor Mike,” a heady marriage of hot pastrami and smoked mozzerella caressed with a light slather of mustard, which the Big Apple’s First Eater devored with the same gusto he reserves for his other favored concoction %u2013 peanut butter and bacon sandwiches.

“He’s probably the most important person who’s ever eaten a sandwich I made,” quipped John DiSpirito, the hands and brains behind the savory sub, which is now a popular menu item at the family-style establishment, 7803 15th Avenue, owned by DiSpirito’s brother, Paul.

The siblings emerged with the idea of naming a sandwich in tribute to their “main man” after being contacted by Bloomberg’s office, for which they had done catering in the past.
