If you’re looking for the perfect place
to stock up on your beach reading, look no further than the third
annual Brooklyn Alternative Small Press Fair at the Old Stone
House in Park Slope.

A labor of love for fair organizer Emily Brown (pictured), this
annual event corrals books from many local, independent presses
and from across the nation, too. This is an opportunity to peruse
rarely seen books, magazines, examples of electronic publishing,
literary audio recordings, literary crafts and more.

This year’s fair, Brown told GO Brooklyn, will also feature performers
cavorting through J.J. Byrne Park as well as authors giving live
readings throughout the course of the event in the Old Stone
House.

"Some of the presses are doing amazing things – from the
political to art stuff," said Brown, who also organizes
the Spiral Thought reading series. "It’s amazing what people
are producing, and you don’t even see it in independent bookstores."
The fair will also include presses publishing works in Arabic
and other languages.

Continue the thrill of discovering new authors and poets after
the event with "The Alternative Small Press Directory,"
a full listing of this year’s fair participants as well as those
who have participated in previous years, which Brown has compiled
and published. The directory will be on sale at the event for
$3 ($4.50 after the event, including shipping and handling).

The Small Press Fair will be held June 6, from noon to 6 pm,
at the Old Stone House – Fifth Avenue between Third and Fourth
Streets inside J.J. Byrne Park. Admission is free. For more information,
