The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce celebrated another successful installment of its annual Energy Summit and Trade Expo at the end of last month, where the borough’s business-boosting group highlighted cutting-edge developments in renewable energy and climate technology.
Held at the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard, the June 20 event brought together over 32 expert speakers and industry leaders — all eager to delve into crucial topics shaping the future of energy in Kings County and beyond.
“After covering the climate crisis up close, from disaster zones to innovation laboratories, I’m convinced that the only way to survive and thrive on our changing planet is through collaboration, innovation and human connection,” said Bill Weir, chief climate correspondent for CNN, told the crowd.
“I’m so thrilled to find the Brooklyn Chamber’s Energy Summit in my own backyard, where neighbors and strangers are turning anxiety into meaningful and profitable action,” he added. “We need new ways to talk and dream about a more resilient future and I can’t wait to share the ideas I’ve picked up around the world.”
Andrew Kimball, president and CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, echoed Weir.
“I am honored to be part of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s third annual Energy Summit and Trade Expo and this great event underscores the critical importance of how a green economy will be fundamental in driving New York City’s economic growth and sustainability,” he said. “It was so inspiring to hear from industry leaders, local leaders, and others as we work collectively to create a more vibrant and inclusive economy for New Yorkers.”
The summit, now in its fourth year, featured a diverse array of panels, exhibitions, and keynote addresses, including an appearance from Brooklyn Chamber President and CEO Randy Peers.
The event serves as a “testament,” Peers said, to the organization’s ongoing commitment to growth.
“This event is a testament to our commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability within our community. By bringing together industry experts, business leaders, and innovators, we aimed to create a collaborative environment where cutting-edge ideas can flourish,” Peers said. “There were so many impactful discussions and connections at this pivotal and timely summit.”
Sponsors for the event included prominent names in the energy sector such as Equinor, National Grid, Con Edison, and NYSERDA, among others. Their support underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in driving forward the agenda for a greener future, Peers said.
