The Brooklyn
College Foundation honored moviemaker Michael Lynne (on the right
in photo at left) at its "Best of Brooklyn" gala at
Manhattan’s Gotham Hall on Oct. 25.
Director/schlockmeister John Waters (left) served as the evening’s
co-host, just one of the bold-faced names that turned up to honor
the New Line Cinema co-chairman and co-CEO.
Don "Face for Radio" Imus presented the award to Lynne
at the benefit, which raised $800,000 for scholarships at Brooklyn
College.
A member of the class of 1961, Lynne majored in English before
attending Columbia University Law School. He and Robert Shaye
co-founded New Line Cinema in 1967, which has produced and distributed
a wide variety of critically acclaimed films, including "About
Schmidt," "The Player," the "Austin Powers"
trilogy, "Rush Hour," "Magnolia," Waters’
"Hairspray," and the "Nightmare on Elm Street"
series.
And Lynne is still riding high, thanks to the success of "The
Lord of the Rings" trilogy/franchise.
The movie mogul is currently a member of the Board of Trustees
of the Brooklyn College Foundation.
Honorary dinner committee co-chairmen included Shaye, Richard
Parsons, chairman and chief executive officer of Time Warner
and Jeff Bewkes, chairman of Time Warner’s entertainment and
network groups.
