You can finally hit the spot.
Target is opening its new Downtown outpost at the City Point shopping complex on Wednesday.
The new one-floor department store on Fulton Mall is just six blocks away from a huge two-story outpost at Atlantic Terminal, but the company claims the Fort Greene one is so popular, there are enough customers to go around.
“By adding another location we’re able to serve even more guests and have traffic spread out,” said Kristy Welk, who handles public relations for the retail giant.
The Walmart competitor is also expecting to pull in customers from City Point’s three luxury residential towers, according to Welk.
The City Point incarnation is smaller than the Atlantic Terminal one, and will include a more modest selection of groceries, clothing, entertainment, and home products. There will also be an in-house Starbucks and a CVS pharmacy.
Target is joining discount department store Century 21 and movie theater Alamo Drafthouse as the first businesses to open in the mall, which has been in the works since 2007.
The complex will eventually include a Trader Joe’s, smaller stores, restaurants, and a basement food hall that will boast outposts of Katz’s Delicatessen and Han Dynasty.
