A motorcyclist died after colliding with a Toyota sedan in the early morning on Thursday, in a crash that left Rockaway Parkway strewn with debris from his shattered highway cruiser.
Paramedics were called to the scene near Avenue M at 4:58 am, where they found the 48-year-old biker with severe injuries all over his body, lying nearby his ruined 1996 Honda Goldwing motorcycle.
In the moments leading up to his death, the biker was traveling north-bound on Rockaway Parkway, while the sedan driver, a 76-year-old man, was on the same road heading the other way. When the elderly man made a fateful left turn onto Avenue M, the biker smashed into his car, cops said.
The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is currently looking into the accident, although their investigation has yet to find fault with either motorist.
Medics rushed the biker to Brookdale Hospital in cardiac arrest, where died later that day.
The driver stayed at the scene of the accident, where he refused medical attention.
The dead man’s name is being withheld by the NYPD, pending his family’s notification.
