It was a hearty walk!

Cardiac-conscious Brooklynites ambled through Downtown and Brooklyn Heights on Sunday morning to raise money for the American Heart Association and call attention the health risks of obesity at the Brooklyn Heart and Stroke Walk — and participants said the event really got their blood pumping.

“It was a really great event, and it’s a very serious issue. I was really glad to be a part of it,” said Shimla Dey, a New York University nurse who discovered the walk online and volunteered by handing out water to walkers. “I’m already looking for more ways to volunteer.”

The trek took participants from Cadman Plaza through Brooklyn Bridge Park and up on to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.

Attendees raised more than $110,000 for the American Heart Association, according to the organization.
