Celebrate Brooklyn! culminates 30 years this summer with a season that exemplifies the singular variety of music, dance, film and multimedia works the festival brings to the Prospect Park Bandshell — programming that is deliberately representative of the borough’s tremendous cultural diversity.
Celebrate Brooklyn! opens June 12 at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails, dinner and presentations followed at 8 p.m. with the free concert by Isaac Hayes. At 10 p.m., the after-party with cocktails and dancing kicks off.
The season features more than 75 artists from 18 countries. The 25 free shows include 19 concerts, three dance companies, a theater production, and three films on NYC’s largest outdoor screen. There will be two new commissions and a New York premiere.
Celebrate Brooklyn! is one of New York City’s longest running, free, outdoor performing arts festivals. Launched in 1979, as a catalyst for a Brooklyn performing arts scene and to bring people back into Prospect Park after years of neglect, Celebrate Brooklyn has been an anchor in the park’s revitalization and has become one of the city’s foremost summer cultural attractions.
Over the course of its history Celebrate Brooklyn has presented more than 1,700 artists and ensembles reflective of the borough’s diversity, ranging from internationally acclaimed performers to emerging, cutting edge artists.
All Celebrate Brooklyn performances are free. The festival attracts upwards of 250,000 attendees from across New York City to the Prospect Park Bandshell each summer.
The opening night gala and concert tickets include dinner, a reserved concert seat and after party admission and start at $300. The concert itself is free to the public and stars Isaac Hayes. The after-party will host DJ Todd-O-Phonic while the gala sponsor is MTV.
It all happens at The Prospect Park Bandshell, Prospect Park West and Ninth Street in Park Slope.
