Police are asking for the public’s help finding a man who allegedly robbed then attacked a straphanger riding the 5 train in Flatbush on April 20.

Authorities say the perp snatched a cellphone from a woman when the train stopped at the Flatbush Avenue-Brooklyn College Station at 4 pm. Cops say the perp ran out of the train with the victim’s phone, but she followed him and grabbed his bag, which ripped. Police say the chaos caused the perp to drop the stolen cellphone and a passerby gave the phone back to the victim.

The suspect then approached the victim and punched her in the face, according to police, after which he reportedly said, “That’s for chasing after me.”

The suspect was wearing a green jacket, blue jeans, black sneakers, and a black baseball hat and was carrying a light gray bag at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577–8477. The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
