Corey Oswalt threw seven innings of shut-out ball to lead the Cyclones to the team’s second win in a row.

Third baseman Jhoan Urena, making in front of just-signed slugger Mike Conforto, led the attack for the Clones, going two for five with a double and two runs batted in. Conforto, who made his first start in left field, added two hits.

The Clones put the game away early with five runs over the first two innings, and got a stellar start from Oswalt (3–1, 2.48 earned-run average) who manager Tom Gamboa says throws great as long as he keeps his focus.

“It was one of those days where he was really on,” the skipper said.

Scarlyn Reyes through two innings of shut-out ball to earn his first save of the season.

The Cyclones look to build on the success this morning at 11:30 during Camp Day at MCU Park.

Ups and Downs

Wounded warriors: Outfielders Joe Tuschak and Jeff Diehl were scratched from the lineup late in the day on July 19. Tuschak is nursing a sore left hamstring after Friday night’s, 15-inning game, and Diehl is coming with an oblique injury.

Super heroes: It was Super Hero Night at MCU Park Sunday night and to honor those are super in real life, the Cyclones hosted a Zumba for Life event to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The team also honored cancer survivors and caregivers before the game, including ten year old Alexiana Abernovich, a cancer survivor who threw out the first pitch.

Giving the lineup length: Cyclones manager Tom Gamboa is excited about the addition of slugger Michael Conforto, a move he says will extend the Clones lineup and help put some crooked numbers up on the board. “All of a sudden we’re deeper,” Gamboa said of the Cyclones’ nearly $3-million dollar investment.
