Clones players are in the cards

Fans aren’t the only ones who enjoy the latest set of Cyclones collectable cards — apparently, the players love them, too.

And so do their parents.

“My dad was out here three days ago, but left just before the cards arrived,” said Cyclones reliever Jimmy Johnson. “He said, ‘You better get me a bunch of them.’”

Starting pitcher Chris Schwinden concurred.

“I collected baseball cards as a kid, and I still have some,” said Schwinden, who grew up in California. “I was a Giants’ fan as a kid and my favorite player was Will Clark, so I have his cards. But having my own card is awesome!”

The 40-card set was produced by Choice SportsCards, and are available for $10 at the Cyclones’ gift shop. But the players got theirs for free.

“Each of the guys gets one uncut sheet and then they get 50 cards of themselves, plus two team sets,” said Dave Campanaro, the Cyclones director of communications who helped design the cards.

Most of the current Cyclones are on the cards, which went to production near the end of July.
