Clones pummel the Ironbirds

Cyclones 12
Ironbirds 5

July 19 at Aberdeen

The starting pitching stunk, but a late barrage of power paced the Cyclones to a laugher over the Ironbirds in Aberdeen.

The ’birds scored three unanswered runs in the first two innings off starter Eduardo Aldama, who ended up giving up eight hits and four runs in four innings. He also allow a stunning four runners to steal in the second inning alone.

But in the top of the third, the Cyclones got a run back on Cole Frenzel’s triple.

After the Ironbirds scored again in the bottom of the frame, the game was all Cyclones.

In the fifth, the Cyclones put up a five-spot — and all the runs came with two outs.

Javier Rodriguez started the rally with a two-run single. A back-to-back-to-back wild pitch, passed ball and wild pitch — then an error — scored another unearned run. Brian Harrison ended the rally with an RBI single.

Three more runs came in during a seventh-inning rally. Frenzel and Rodriquez started the inning with singles before slugger Richard Lucas knocked in Frenzel with his ninth double of the year. After two groundouts, Travis Taijeron tripled home Rodriguez and Lucas.

Yet another three-spot went up in the eighth. Brandon Brown led off with a double and scored on Daniel Muno’s single. After Muno scored on an error, Harrison hit a triple that knocked in two.

Overall, the Cyclones had 13 hits on the night, with Rodriquez’s 3-for-5 leading the way.
