In explaining his vote for the congestion tax, Councilmember Domenic Recchia said he was elected to lead. Apparently, he forgets who he is leading. When he voted with the mayor to raise our property taxes by 18.5 percent, he said he was doing it for his constituents.
Now, he wants us to believe he voted for the congestion tax for the same reason. This is a man who earns the most money in the City Council at over $300,000 a year from outside income and represents one of the most low income districts in the entire city.
It is also ironic that he speaks about asthma and congestion when he himself drives to City Hall each day. A leader leads by example and would take the subway, or carpool, with other council members. And somebody needs to buy Domenic a map of the 13th Congressional District and update him on some current events that are happening in his council district.
According to a New York Daily News editorial, he said that he voted for the congestion tax because there will be ferry service in Sunset Park. Domenic, buddy, pal, amigo…Sunset Park is not in the 13th Congressional District and is not in your council district either. And he also mentioned that there will be express service in Bensonhurst and Gravesend. Domenic, there is already express service in those neighborhoods!
The reason why he is struggling with his explanation is because he is outright lying. The true concession made by Mayor Bloomberg was allowing Recchia’s buddy, Joe Sitt of Thor Equities, to build hotels in the middle of Coney Island’s amusement area.
Domenic, what about the congestion that will be caused by Sitt’s overdevelopment? Should we tax people to enter Coney?
