Supermom Tyeis Mojica is also a super cop, the 84th Precinct Community Council determined last week.
On August 24, Mojica was walking the beat on Atlantic Avenue when she was waved down by a person who said someone just broke into his car, according to Leslie Lewis the president of the 84th Precinct Community Council. Mojica sprang into action, asking the man to describe the suspect, whom she quickly spotted, and took into custody. “Without incident, she arrested the guy,” Lewis reported to the community council at its Sept. 15 meeting. “She just did her job as a professional. I think its terrific that people like this take care of our neighborhood,” Lewis said.
For her efforts, Mojica was named “Cop of the Month,” earning a wooden plaque with her name on it and hearty applause from the crowd gathered inside St. Francis College.
Captain Mark DiPaolo, the commanding officer of the precinct also praised Mojica, who has been a cop for nine years, the past four at the 84th Precinct. She’s also a mother of six children, and her husband was recently deployed to Iraq.
“While [her husband] is away on a dangerous mission, she is here protecting the streets of the 84th Precinct,” DiPaolo said. “Someone breaking into a car may not seem like the crime of the month, but I felt that this is an important person to honor.” From the time he stepped into the precinct 11 months ago, the captain continued, “I knew she was a special person.”
