Cops arrested a 30-year-old man after he allegedly assaulted a clerk who confronted him about shoplifting a $4 cookie on Valentine’s Day.

The clerk at Fresh Start Market Place on Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights said he observed the alleged suspect attempting to leave the store at around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 14, without paying for an Ulker Choco Sandwich that he had placed in his bag.

After following the man outside, the worker said a verbal dispute broke out when he confronted him about shoplifting the cookie. The clerk reported that the man then punched him in the face, leaving him with a bloody nose and bruised eye.

Cops arrested the suspect three days later after identifying him from the store’s security cameras.

While felony assaults are down year-to-date in the 84th Precinct — where the not-so-sweet incident occurred — reported robberies are up a whopping 125% from 2023, according to Police Department data. Reported burglaries, however, are also trending slightly down.
