A cyclist was killed and two were others injured after a teenage driver blew through a red light in Midwood Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.
An 18-year-old man was driving southbound on Coney Island Avenue when he ran a red light at Avenue L and T-boned another car heading east at 12:27 p.m, according to preliminary investigations by the police department’s Collision Investigation Squad.
The second vehicle then jumped the curb, where it struck the cyclist and a pedestrian, pinning both against a wall, cops said.
Paramedics rushed the 52-year-old cyclist — who was stationary at the time of the incident — to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a spokesman for the police department.
The pedestrian, 52, and the 38-year-old male operator of the second vehicle were brought to Maimonides Hospital in stable condition, the authorities said.
Cops took the 18-year-old driver into custody, and police expect to file charges soon, the NYPD spokesman said.
Sunday’s fatality marks the 14th biker to perish on Kings County streets this year and the 19th to die citywide. There were only 10 cyclist fatalities throughout all five boroughs in 2018.
