Cyclones 5
Aberdeen 1
June 25 at MCU Park
Starter Octavio Acosta dominated over six innings, and the Cyclones scored two in the fifth and three in the eighth to earn the win.
Acosta gave up just one hit — a home run in the first to Alex Murphy — while striking out seven as he improved to 2–0 on the season.
In the fifth, Tomas Nido singled and later scored on a fielding error and a wild pitch scored Tucker Tharp, who reached on a fielder’s choice.
In the eighth, Michael Katz broke his 0–22 funk with a single up the middle that scored Joe Tuschak and Amed Rosario. Katz crossed the plate as the final run of the game when Tyler Moore hit his first triple of the year.
Edioglis Villasmil threw two innings of one-hit ball, and Shane Bay pitched a perfect ninth for the Clones. Brooklyn’s 1.76 team earned-run average leads the league.
The Cyclones improve to 9–4 and take on the Ironbirds again tonight at MCU Park. Game time is 7 pm.
