Cyclones defeat the Doubledays 2-0

July 14 at MCU Park

The losing streak is over — for now.

The Clones atoned for an embarrassing loss the previous night, tallying a 2-0 home win against the Auburn Doubledays at MCU park.

Strong pitching and solid glovework helped the Clones break a five game losing streak at home and pulled the team out of the below-.500 basement — the Cyclones first sojourn into a losing record since 2008.

Brooklyn’s Eduardo Aldama, who is tied for second in strikeouts in the league and is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA, threw a solid five innings, striking out eight and giving up only one hit in a pitcher’s duel that dominated the game’s first half.

Auburn’s Brian Dupra repeated the trick, holding the Clones scoreless for four and a half innings, but Cole Frenzel broke the spell with a two-run RBI line drive single in the fifth, bringing home Brian Harrison, who had walked, and Xorge Carrillo, who had been hit by a pitch.

With the bases loaded, Richard Lucas could have sealed the game at that point — but the Cyclones infielder struck out, his second of the night.

The Cyclones return home vs. the Auburn Doubledays at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] on July 15, 7 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
