Ironbirds 6
Cyclones 1
June 22 at Ripkin Stadium
Poor Cyclones pitching helped the Aberdeen Ironbirds trounce the Mini Mets 6–1 at Maryland’s Ripkin Stadium on Friday — Brooklyn’s second loss in two days.
The Clones bullpen showed promise in the beginning as pitcher Julian Hilario struck out six in six innings and limited the Junior Orioles to a walk and a run, but everything fell apart when reliever Dawrin Frias took the mound after the stretch.
With the game tied at 1 and two outs on the board, the right-handed Dominican Republic prospect gave up a double, a triple, two singles and a walk — allowing four Ironbirds to fly around the bases — before Coach Rich Donnelly yanked him off the rubber.
Cyclones pitcher John Mincone sealed the loss by giving up a run at the bottom of the eighth.
The Clones offense failed to make up for Frias’s failure, posting just one run and two hits the entire game — their bats falling silent after the third inning.
The Cyclones will return to MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497, www.brooklyncyclones.com] on Monday, June 25 at 7 pm to take on the Hudson Valley Renegades.P
