Valley Cats 7
Aug. 23 at Tri-City
This game was over practically before it began.
Tri-City jumped to a 4-0 lead in the home first, slamming starter Eduardo Aldama, who walked three, tossed a wild pitch and gave up two singles in a wild inning.
The Clones cut the lead in half on a T.J. Rivera double and a Xorge Carillo single, but the Cats got those runs back an inning later on a two-run homer off Aldama.
When it was too late, Richard Lucas hit a dinger in the eighth and a Chase Greene single in the ninth. The late rally was crushed when Carrillo was thrown out at home and Brandon Brown struck out.
The good news is that Williamsport was swept in Batavia, keeping the Cyclones just one game back of the Crosscutters for the league’s lone wild-card berth. And the hated Staten Island Yankees lost, meaning that the Cyclones blew a chance to make up some ground, and still trail the Baby Bombers by three-and-a-half games.
The Cyclones are home again at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
