The Cyclones clinched the New York–Penn League wild card slot with a win over their hated rivals, plus a loss by the Williamsport Crosscutters.

The win continued Brooklyn’s strength against the league-leading Staten Island Yankees, their first-round playoff challenger.

The Clones got all they needed with two runs in the third. After T.J. Rivera led off with a single, Daniel Muno sent him to third with his 23rd double of the year. Rivera scored on a groundout and Muno came in on Javier Rodriguez’s 22nd two-bagger of the year.

Another run came in during the third after Travis Taijeron doubled and later scored on Rivera’s sac fly.

The final run scored in the seventh on Richard Lucas’s single.

Newcomer Domingo Tapia was impressive in his Cyclone debut, pitching six innings of shutout ball, yielding just five hits and striking out six.

The playoffs begin on Tuesday night.

The Cyclones are home against the Staten Island Yankees at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] on Sunday at 5 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
