Cyclones 2
Lake Monsters 1
July 30 at Vermont
Once again, it was that deadly combination — great pitching and timely hitting — that propelled the surging Cyclones to their third win in a row. The team is now back at .500 for the first time in weeks and only four games back of the first place Yankees.
True, starter Jenrry Meija gave up a run in the second on a SAC fly, but that was all the scoring for the Lake Monsters. After five innings, Meija was relieved by Jimmy Johnson (3 IP, 5Ks) and closer Yury Santana (1 IP), who kept the Monsters quiet.
The Cyclones did their scoring in the seventh, tying the game on an error and then going ahead on a Kirk Nieuwenhuis RBI single. Nieuwenhuis was 2-for-3 on the night.
