It was a bad time to be a day laborer in Bensonhurst — besides the long hours, tough work and low pay, they were targeted as robbery victims on Aug. 18. Here’s a roundup:
• A pair of thugs picked up a man looking for work on 65th Street and 16th Avenue, but robbed and beat him instead. The victim told cops that he got into a black SUV at around 10 am after he was promised work, but after driving to Shore Parkway, one of the perps slashed his face and punched him in the stomach.
The pair took $700 from the victim before dropping him off between 16th Avenue and Bay 13th Street.
• Another pair of thieves — also armed — pulled a similar stunt on Cropsey Avenue and Bay 25th Street, but this time, the villains were arrested, cops said.
The two perps approached the victim on the street at around 2:30 pm and told him they would drive him to a work site for the day. After the victim agreed, one of the perps held him up at knife-point and ran off with $60.
Cops arrested both robbers soon after.
• A third unlucky laborer was picked up on Bay Parkway and 65th Street and beaten, but the perps were later collared.
After getting the victim into their car at around 2 pm, the perps pulled a knife and demanded his money. When the victim told them he didn’t have any, the would-be thieves punched him in the face and threw him out of the car on Shore Parkway.
The laborer, who was abandoned between 15th and 16th avenues, gave cops the perps’ license plate, which lead to their arrest.
Police records show that the crimes were not committed by the same villains, as the descriptions of the perps did not match.
