A 32-year-old motorist was killed during a harrowing East Flatbush accident involving a minivan, a pothole and a telephone pole, officials said this week.
Police said that six people were in the 2002 Honda Odyssey at 3:30 a.m. on January 17 when the vehicle struck a pothole near the corner of Kings Highway and Tilden Avenue.
The driver reportedly lost the control of the van, which bounced off a telephone pole along the Kings Highway service road. As the van tumbled away, the unnamed driver was thrown out of side window and then crushed by his own vehicle, according to published reports.
When police arrived, the minivan was on its side; the driver was underneath it.
The five other occupants — who were all returning home from a local nightclub — were taken to Brookdale Hospital and were listed in stable condition after treatment.
