Firefighters battled two Brooklyn fires almost simultaneously on Saturday afternoon.
Just after 12:45 p.m. on June 8, units responded to heavy smoke pouring out from the roof of a two-story attached dwelling near East 78th Street and Flatlands Avenue in Canarsie. More than 100 firefighters used five hose-lines to knock down the main body of the fire, which quickly spread to the building’s cockloft — the area between the ceiling and the roof.
No injuries were reported and the fire was place under control at 1:40 p.m.
Just as that fire was coming under control, another blaze broke out less than a mile-and-a-half away, near East 53rd Street and Avenue D in East Flatbush.
Firefighters arrived to the second scene to find heavy fire and smoke bursting out of the one-story commercial iron making shop, just feet from of the neighborhood’s longstanding Pepsi facility.
Units deployed four hose-lines to knock down the main body of the fire.
No injuries were reported and the fire was deemed under control at 2:35 p.m.
The FDNY’s Fire Marshal’s Office will determine the cause and origin of both fires.
