The first crocuses will be pushing their purple and yellow heads through the cold-hardened ground as Brooklyn tykes, spring in their step, head out to celebrate the change of seasons.

The fun begins when the Friends of Kaiser Park hold their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 20th, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the park, West 31st Street and Neptune Avenue.
Hundreds of area children are expected to participate in the beloved event, now in its ninth year. All participants in this free event must bring their own bag or basket. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult. There is no rain date.

Finding Their Way
A week later, On Sunday, March 28th, at 1 p.m., there will be a program on Easter Egg Orienteering at the Picnic House in Prospect Park, at Third Street and West Drive. The free event, hosted by the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, teaches youngsters how to use a compass as they search for clues to lead them to Easter eggs secreted in the area.

Egg-Citing Events
Beginning at the end of March, State Senator Marty Golden will host a pair of Easter Egg Hunts in his district. The first will take place on Saturday, March 27th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Marine Park, Fillmore Avenue and Marine Parkway. The second will be held on Saturday, April 3rd, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., in McKinley Park, Bay Ridge Parkway and Fort Hamilton Parkway.
Participation is free in each of the egg hunts, which will feature music and prizes for the youngsters, who will be occupied searching for the over 1,000 candy-filled eggs that will be hidden in each of the parks. Also part of the fun will be races, face painting and entertainment provided by clowns.

Head to the Heights
Also on Saturday, April 3rd, the Brooklyn Heights Playground Committee will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt, beginning at 10 a.m. Hundreds of children are expected to participate in the event, which will be held at the Pierrepont Playground, adjacent to Columbia Heights and Pierrepont Street, on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.

Learning Can Be Fun
On Saturday, April 3rd, and Easter Sunday, April 4th, the Prospect Park Audubon Center will offer a free program, Unscrambling the Egg, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will feature crafts, games and special exhibits, in a kid-charming combination of fun and learning.
The Audubon Center can be reached by entering the park at Lincoln Road and Ocean Avenue, at Parkside and Ocean Avenues, or at Flatbush Avenue and Empire Boulevard, and following the directional signs.

Canarsie’s the Place
Finally, Tots and Teens in Focus will hold its annual youth parade and spring family fun day on Saturday, April 17th (rain date: Saturday, April 24th), from 1 to 6 p.m., with the parade held from 3 to 4 p.m. State Senator John Sampson will be the grand marshal of the event, which will be held in Canarsie, with the location still to be determined.
Over the course of the day, families can enjoy bouncy rides, be entertained by Ding-a-ling the Clown and a dance group, and participate in games and giveaways, as well as watch the Tots and Teens spring fashion show.
