Cyclones leave ’em stranded in loss to Valley Cats

The Cyclones bats were quiet when they most needed them most during a rare day game Tuesday.
After Tri-City walked three to load the bases with one out in the the seventh, Carlos Cortes hit into a double play to end the inning before the Clones could score.
In the eighth, Anthony Dirocie whacked a two out double down the left field line with the Clones down by one, before Walter Rasquin grounded out.
“It was a tough one man,” skipper Edgardo Alfonzo said after the game. “We played right, we just couldn’t come clean with a base hit.”
The Valley Cats got on the board in the second off a solo homer. Our boys quickly tied it up in the bottom of the card when Anthony Dirocie popped out to drive in Brian Sharp, who had tripled.
In the third, Alex McKenna continued to terrorize Cyclones pitchers when he smacked a two-run shot to left, his second home run of the series.
Brooklyn scored one in the third on a run-scoring single from Carlos Cortes that knocked in Ross Adolph, who had singled and moved to second on a failed pick-off attempt.
Tri–City scored one insurance run in the seventh, before Todd Frazier, the Met all star making a rehab start, cracked a solo shot in the eighth to put the Clones back within one run, but our boys couldn’t make up the deficit.
Starting pitcher Tylor Megill was taken out in the fourth after giving up three runs on two home runs. Billy Oxford, and Ryan Selmer did their best to keep Tri–City at bay, giving up only one run between the two of them.
The two teams face off again tonight at MCU Park at 7 pm.
