On April 27, Dr. Santo Fiasconaro delivered my gorgeous niece, Gianna, to her extremely proud parents Jillian and Carl at Methodist Hospital.

Interestingly enough, almost 28 years ago, on September 23, 1980, Dr. Santo Fiasconaro delivered my sister, Jillian, to her extremely proud parents Carol and Thomas, at the same exact hospital.

What makes it all the more special was that Jillian was the first girl Dr. Fiasconaro delivered back when he was starting out as a new OB/GYN in Brooklyn. For that reason, he even brought all the nurses in to meet my sister on Sunday. “This was the first girl I delivered… and now I’m delivering her baby!” he said proudly. The nurses laughed, “Then, that means you are old.”

He isn’t though. He is still known as one of the best in his field in fact. Practically my whole family (well the female side at least) use either him, or his brother as their OB/GYN (Drs. Santo & Gary Fiasconaro run an extremely successful practice together in Bay Ridge). Dr. Fiasconaro has delivered my sister and my brother, tons of cousins (we have a very large Italian-Irish family), and now my niece.

[A funny sidenote… both Dr. Fiasconaros together delivered babies for three sisters on the same day in the same hospital several years ago. Those were our cousins.]

In the end, it was wonderful that my mom was able to find solace in the fact that Jillian was in very good hands. Jillian means the world to us and now her beautiful daughter does as well. We only want the best for them both. And luckily, we had it.
