A 69-year-old man was killed Monday morning in a harrowing East Flatbush fire.
Fire officials responded to a call at 844 Midwood St., between Utica and Schenectady avenues, at around 4:33 a.m. When first responders arrived, they were met by heavy fire in a first floor apartment.
The inferno took 12 units and 60 members to subdue, according to a Fire Department spokesperson, and it was placed under control at around 5:23 a.m.
During a sweep of the dwelling, firefighters found the man unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services took the victim — whose identity has not yet been released, pending proper family notification — to NYC Health and Hospitals/Kings County, where he was pronounced dead.
The Fire Marshal will determine the cause of the blaze and the investigation remains ongoing.
