Fatal shooting in Flatlands

A 15-year-old boy was shot dead and a man was injured in a Jan. 11 shooting that police say may be gang-related.

Officers say Flatlands resident Isiah Joseph was shot in the back and the unnamed adult victim in his torso.

Both victims were transported to Brookdale Hospital, where Joseph was pronounced dead on arrival. The other victim was in stable condition, police said.

Authorities released a video of three suspects they say were involved in the shooting that occurred on E. 56th Street and Avenue H at 1:05 pm Sunday.

The incident was the second fatal shooting in the area in less than a week.

Councilan Jumaane D. Williams (D–Flatbush), the Deputy Leader and co-chairman of the Council’s Task Force to Combat Gun Violence, and Councilman Alan Maisel (D–Marine Park), who represents the neighborhood, released a joint statement condemning the shooting.

“As we wait for further details to unfold, we cannot accept this incident as the norm, and must continue to demand that real, concerted efforts are made to limit these horrific acts,” they said the statement. “Guns and gang violence must not have a place in our community, and we must respond to each act with sustained energy and rebuttal.”

The duo called for combatting gun violence by dealing with the city’s supply of guns, as well as what they called the “demand and penchant” for violent acts in the area.

Police say the suspects were all wearing dark clothing and the shooter was wearing gray pants and a black jacket.
