Our boxing boys in blue packed a punch when they squared off against a team of fierce fighters from the world’s oldest active boxing gym to benefit a legendary DUMBO institution.

Team Fighting Finest squared off against the DUMBO Destroyers from Gleason’s Gym during a Sept. 8 fundraiser at St. Ann’s Warehouse for the DUMBO Improvement District and the NYPD boxing program.

The nine-bout match was “the ticket to end all tickets,” according to one fan.

“It was en extremely exciting and close competition that went down to the wire,” said Bruce Silverglade, owner of Gleason’s Gym, whose star-studded Hall of Fame includes such boxing behemoths as Muhammad Ali, a fixture at the gym from the mid-1960s to the late 1970s, his nemesis, Joe Frazier, who perfected his skills there in the early 1970s, and Mike Tyson, who practiced there for a decade, beginning in the mid-1980s.

The NYPD Team lost, 5-4, but didn’t have to sing the blues because every pugilist received a trophy.
