Healthy Families Brooklyn, a joint program of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health and Long Island College Hospital (LICH) of Brooklyn, continues to train community members to be health advocates in their communities.
Recently, it formed an alliance with the Arab-American Family Support Center in Brooklyn to recruit and train six Arab-American women to be community health navigators. The navigators sponsor activities which promote healthful behavior, help people apply for health coverage, make primary care appointments and identify and address health needs unique to their particular community.
Healthy Families Brooklyn, established by generous funding provided by John Wren, president and CEO of the Omnicom group and chairman of the Board of Regents at LICH, 339 Hicks Street, provided the Arab-American Family Support Center with a grant to establish the successful navigator program.
