On pointe

Getting up on your tippy-toes is one of the hardest moves in dance, and the annual “Counterpointe” series is devoted to that impressive maneuver. The three-night performance series features seven female choreographers creating pieces for pointe shoes, each paired with a work of visual art.

7:30 pm at the Actors Fund Arts Center (160 Schermerhorn St. between Smith and Hoyt streets in Downtown, www.brooklynballet.org). $25.

Saturday

April 8

Finger food

Get your brunch while watching a weird, weird musical: “The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T,” — the only feature film written by Dr. Seuss! The bizarre saga of a boy trapped by a diabolical piano teacher will make more sense once you’ve had a few mimosas.

11:45 am at Nitehawk Cinema [136 Metropolitan Ave. between Wythe Avenue and Berry Street in Williamsburg, (718) 384–3980, www.nitehawkcinema.com]. $12.

The best talk

It’s going to be the best reading. Really tremendous. Alec Baldwin is someone who has been doing an amazing job and is getting recognized more and more. Big impact. His memoir “Nevertheless” has the best words. And he’s going to have the biggest audience ever to see a reading. Period.

6 pm at BAM Howard Gilman [30 Lafayette Ave. between Ashland Place and St. Felix Street in Fort Greene, (718) 636–4100], www.bam.org. $35–$85.

Tuesday

April 11

Meta man

It’s a movie about a show about a show! Seven episodes of the twisty meta-documentary series “The Show about the Show,” which first aired on Brooklyn’s Bric TV, will screen together tonight. Each short episode is about the making of the previous episode, and filmmaker Caveh Zahedi will try to explain it all in a discussion after the show.

7 pm at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema [445 Albee Square West between Fulton and Willoughby streets Downtown, (718) 513–2547, www.drafthouse.com/nyc]. $15.

Doctor’s orders

The Spin Doctors are still kicking — as seen in the below photo of frontman Chris Barron. The ubiquitous early ’90s band has been putting out music ever since the heyday of “Two Princes,” and you can catch some tunes from the bluesy “If The River Was Whiskey” album tonight at Brooklyn Bowl.

8 pm. Brooklyn Bowl [61 Wythe Ave. between N. 11th and N. 12th streets in Williamsburg, (718) 963–3369, www.brooklynbowl.com]. $18 ($15 in advance).

Creator of the show: Caveh Zahedi is the creator, director and star of “The Show About the Show,” in which he documents his efforts to create a television show about his efforts to create a television show.
