Off the island

This weekend is your last chance to catch the Brooklyn Museum’s two exhibits on the People’s Playground! The shows “Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland, 1861-2008” and “Forever Coney: Photographs from the Brooklyn Museum Collection” both close on Sunday, March 13, so see them while you can.

Going Greene

People are not wearing enough hats. That’s the sort of fundamental problem with the universe being rectified by Kelly Greene, of the children’s book “Kelly Greene and the Green Hats” — who wears different viridescent headgear every day. Today, bring the kids to meet author DM Dondero and hear more about her charming chapeau enthusiast.

Sweet sound

Experimental musician Maharaja Sweets will lay down some synth jams for the cassette (yes! cassette!) release party for “The Caprice of Young Gods,” which he describes as an “interstellar telenovela.” And if he takes requests, ask for his three-hour song that includes all the words from Chapter Six of “Finnegan’s Wake.”

Flip out

Try an old-school drink tonight called an “ale flip” — a combination of beer and rum, stirred with a hot poker! It was all the rage in the 18th Century, and tonight’s Big Meat feast, hosted by food historian Sarah Lohman (pictured), serves up Revolutionary War-era drinks and dishes like roast lamb and oysters to raise cash for the Old Stone House.
