Off the island

This weekend is your last chance to catch the Brooklyn Museum’s two exhibits on the People’s Playground! The shows “Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland, 1861-2008” and “Forever Coney: Photographs from the Brooklyn Museum Collection” both close on Sunday, March 13, so see them while you can.

11 am–6 pm at Brooklyn Museum [200 Eastern Pkwy. at Washington Avenue in Prospect Heights, (718) 638–5000], www.brooklynmuseum.org. $16 suggested admission.

Going Greene

People are not wearing enough hats. That’s the sort of fundamental problem with the universe being rectified by Kelly Greene, of the children’s book “Kelly Greene and the Green Hats” — who wears different viridescent headgear every day. Today, bring the kids to meet author DM Dondero and hear more about her charming chapeau enthusiast.

Noon at Bookmark Shoppe (8415 Third Ave. between 84th and 85th streets in Fort Greene), www.bookmarkshoppe.com. Free.

Sweet sound

Experimental musician Maharaja Sweets will lay down some synth jams for the cassette (yes! cassette!) release party for “The Caprice of Young Gods,” which he describes as an “interstellar telenovela.” And if he takes requests, ask for his three-hour song that includes all the words from Chapter Six of “Finnegan’s Wake.”

8 pm at Over the Eight (594 Union Ave. at Richardson Street in Williamsburg, www.overtheeight.com). Free.

Funny face: This is final weekend to check out the Brooklyn Museum’s exhibit on “Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland” which includes this painted metal sign from the Steeplechase.

Flip out

Try an old-school drink tonight called an “ale flip” — a combination of beer and rum, stirred with a hot poker! It was all the rage in the 18th Century, and tonight’s Big Meat feast, hosted by food historian Sarah Lohman (pictured), serves up Revolutionary War-era drinks and dishes like roast lamb and oysters to raise cash for the Old Stone House.

7 pm at Greenpoint Beer and Ale [7 N. 15th St. at Franklin Street in Greenpoint, (718) 389–2940, www.theoldstonehouse.org]. $70.

Irish ayes

It’s St. Patrick’s Day! We suggest heading to your local Irish pub to indulge in the craic with a glass of the good stuff — any beer that is not green! For those without a regular spot, consider a bar where everyone is a newcomer — Paddy’s of Park Slope, open just four months and hosting the band Reel Celtic today.

6 pm at Paddy’s of Park Slope [273 13th St. between Fifth and Sixth avenues in Park Slope, (718) 369–0831]. Free.

Updated with new location of “The Caprice of Young Gods” release party.

Cure for what ales you: Food historian Sarah Lohman will serve 18th Century “ale flips,” made with a hot poker, at the Big Meat feast on March 16.
