Swamp stomp

The Jalopy Theatre’s annual festival of Cajun, Creole, and zydeco music, Bayou ’n’ Brooklyn, is back May 8–10, with live performances from local and visiting acts at night and workshops on how to play the fiddle, accordion, and guitar in the day. There will also be a jambalaya and cornbread supper on Saturday to fuel a long night of dancing.

Old souls

The first of this year’s waterfront Celebrate Brooklyn! Dance Parties will be a soul extravaganza. Local institution Felix Hernandez will bring his long-running Rhythm Revue party, getting the party started by spinning classic Motown, Stax, and Philly tracks. Then old-school Minnesota soul singer and showman Sonny Knight and his funky backing band the Lakers will play live.
