Stay up for the 12-hour think-a-thon that is the “Night of Philosophy and Ideas” at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Branch, with lectures, debates, and performances into the wee hours. We are especially looking forward to the 2:30 am lecture “Why Your Life Needs to Suck Sometimes” and the 4 am discussion about dating robots (pictured).

Real Israel

The annual Brooklyn Israel Film Festival brings the best of Israeli film to the borough, and you can bring to the kids to tonight’s screening — upstairs, adults will watch “A Quiet Heart,” about a young woman in Jerusalem who becomes a target when she moves to an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood, while kids watch “Guava” downstairs, a musical set in a city where humans and puppets work together.

Former New York Times food critic and Benshonhurst native Mimi Sheraton will celebrate her 92nd birthday tonight by answering your questions, at a live recording of the podcast “The Sporkful.” Other guests on the show include comedian Aparna Nancherla and vegetarian chef Amanda Cohen.

Dumbo it down

Get your fill of culture — and of free wine — at the Dumbo First Thursday Gallery walk. Art galleries will be open late tonight, so you can check out a futuristic installation at Art in General, paintings of mayhem at Smack Mellon, and videos being projected on the Manhattan Bridge.
