This summer will be hotter than ever as Brooklyn Children’s Museum presents the highly anticipated Target Free Friday Family Jams series, a sequence of free−admission evenings featuring the music, dance, programs, exhibits, and family fun for kids, parents, grandparents, and friends.
For the first time ever in the “new” museum, families can explore exhibits, experience fun and educational programs, and enjoy cultural performances from 5−7:30 p.m. every Friday night, July 10 through August 28.
Upcoming Target Free Friday Family Jams Series programs include:
• African Pearl Troupe: Music & Dance of Uganda, July 10, all ages: Explore the museum, catch some film shorts, and join in a festive celebration of life featuring music and dance from Uganda. Bring your own drum and learn the meaning of different African sounds in an authentic drum session.
• The Last Mambo King — Orlando Marin and His Quintet, Featuring Omaira from Salsa Salon, July 17, all ages: Watch some flicks, pick up dinner in the Kids Cafe, and journey back in time with Orlando Marin, the only orchestra leader from New York’s golden era of mambo who still performs regularly. A legend in his own right, Orlando Marin has worked with the likes of Tito Puente and the Mambo All Stars. Revel in the classic sounds and style produced by Orlando and his quintet, featuring Omaira from Salsa Salon.
Admission is free for all visitors after 5 p.m. on a first come first serve basis.
The Brooklyn Children’s Museum is located at 145 Brooklyn Avenue at St. Marks Avenue. General admission is $7.50 per person. Museum members and children under one year old are free.
