The Mets are sending in a ringer!
On Sunday night, when the Cyclones face the hated Staten Island Yankees, Mets pitcher Dillon Gee will make a rehab start, almost guaranteeing a Clones victory.
Gee last donned a Cyclones uniform during the 2007 season, when he was 21. He completed that season with a record of 3–1 and struck out 56, working mostly out of the bullpen.
The years that followed saw Gee pitch for St. Lucie, Binghamton, and Buffalo, with his debut for the Mets coming in 2010, but his first full season in the Major League not taking place until 2012 due to injuries.
Gee is also the first Cyclone to be named as the Mets’s opening day starter.
Gee’s Cyclones number 20 was in 2011 the latest to be honored at MCU Park, joining Danny Garcia’s number 6, Brian Bannister’s number 19, and Angel Pagan’s number 35.
The Mets put Gee on the 15-day disabled list on May 14 of this year due to a strained right lat muscle. Gee made his first rehab start with the Gulf Coast League Mets earlier in the week, pitching two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and striking out two.
Fans aren’t the only ones excited to see Gee back at MCU Park.
“It’s going to be beneficial to our pitching staff to watch a big leaguer and how he goes about his business and his poise,” said Cyclones manager Tom Gamboa.
