Everybody knows that the farmer’s market is a great place to grab local vegetables, but this weekend, the Park Slope Community Gardens will be the place to stock up on “Local Produce.”
Neighborhood arts association Spoke The Hub is sponsoring the two-day “Local Produce” festival — billed as a “cultural greenmarket” — that will feature live music, art, dance and more.
“We always have a core of artists that we try to bring on each year because they’re veterans of the art scene,” said Beth Leonard, one of the event’s organizers. “This festival tries to support veterans but also the new artists coming up so people get to see both. We try to juxtapose new and old artists.”
With performances from cultural veterans like the Charles Moore Dance Theater and The Mad Jazz Hatters, as well as newcomers like Latin dance group Salsa Salsa, this is one market that everyone should be shopping at.
“Local Produce” will begin at 10 am on May 31 and 11 am on June 1 at the Park Slope Community Gardens (Union Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues in Park Slope). The festival is free. For information, call (718) 408-3234 or visit www.spokethehub.org.
